Interview / Hannah Graff

Here is an interview with my lovely friend Hannah. I forgot how I met her, but she is a talented, spark of park of light. And I adore her. Here is her tumblr, art tumblr, and pinterest. I am so happy to have a friend like her who encourages, inspires, and one day I hope to visit her on the East Coast!

Hello my name is Hannah I have been working hard to graduate at The Art Academy of Cincinnati with my degree in Illustration. I am a passionate illustrator who strives to create works of whimsy and dark fantastical imagery. I love clothing and am always inspired fashion design.

Currently, I am a fashion and lifestyle blogger as well as artist and illustrator trying to get my work recognized. I co-run the blog -http://thegatsbygirls.com/ with my wonderful sister. We post our fashion cooking and lifestyle inspiration and share some of our own fashion and cooking tips. I find some of my most influential inspiration on my tumblr-http://moonandtrees.tumblr.com/. My art tumblr-http://moonandtrees.tumblr.com/ is a place to post my work as well as look at other talented artists

My inspiration derives from my love of books, movies, fashion, music, nature and fellow artists. I am always inspired by the worlds that movies create that completely take me some place else. Books are a comfort and take you on journey while you are sitting in your favorite chair at home. Fashion lets us express ourselves shows our interests and what we find beautiful . Music is always important me as I work on my art. It can inspire me and keep me motivated to work. Nature is a constant inspiration. It inspires my art greatly and is always a place for me to escape to and explore

5 Things that Heal me-
1. Tea is huge part of healing for me. If I am sick, feeling down or just wanting to feel better after a long day I always drink tea. My favorite kind of tea is earl grey.
2. yoga- just simply doing a stress relieving yoga helps me so much. I love that yoga is partly meditation and exercise. It’s calming and makes you feel so much better afterwords.
3. Pampering- I think it’s good to take some time off and pamper yourself I love finding natural facemasks to use for such occasions.
4. Good movies- When I am in a sad or bad mood watching old movies is one of my favorite things to do and puts me in a good mood.
5. Making art- This is the most healing thing for me to do. I get my emotions out and get to express my feelings and create something from it.

Food is nurturing, So I consume- Lots of veggies! I am a vegetarian so I love fruits and veggies and nuts. I am of course a sucker for pizza, and love to make my own pizza dough.

Films that inspire me
– Marie Antoinette, Princess Mononoke, Pan’s Labyrinth, Pride and Prejudice and Lord of the Rings

People who have inspire me- Cristina Rose (aw thank you Hannah!), Sophia Coppola, Martine Johanna, Florence Welch
One piece of advice- Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.”
Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic

In 5 years I want to –Be working as an illustrator creating work in a studio and making my own art books. I would like to be happily settled with my boyfriend living in an old house with a garden and lots of cats.

Dream vision board, what would your ideal day consist of?

Creation Process / Musings

Nature is a constant fixture when I create a piece of artwork. Whether it be animals, branches of trees, flora, - nature is always inspiring me. My dream & eventual goal is to move where the trees run for miles, a creek is only a walk away, Birds in singing to the morning sky and a family of deer nearby. There is a solitude in nature that is always welcoming and a beauty that rivals no other.

I was born, raised, and bloomed in the city. But I have always been an introvert, surrounding myself with fresh flowers, potted plants and herbs, painting the bounty of earthly embodiment. My heart focuses on the old Greek and Norse myths my father would read me as a child that primarily took place in nature, books of poetry and idyllic images of fairies and gardens, classic fairytales that lead me to become a constant daydreamer. In school I would wander off underneath the trees with books I checked out from the library. My father would bring wounded or lost animals home. Sometimes lost dogs until we found their owners, several times birds that might have fallen from the tree - their injured wings. I remember being allowed to feed them water with a little dropper, feeling awe that I could ease its thirst. Once healed we sent them back into the wild. Early in childhood I was surrounded with animals, taught to respect them and understand them.

In nature there is forgiveness, there is health, and beauty. I believe in revering nature and taking care of our surroundings, We are lucky to have trees that supply us with oxygen, harvesting plants that we can use for health and growth. There is a balance and everyday I work to achieve that similar balance, observance and every artist has their own path and inspiration. Perhaps for me, I merely paint and create dreams of a paradise I wish to walk in. An expression and extension of what makes me happy. When I think about it, nature is magic. Looking at the anatomy of birds and animals, the plumage of feathers, the structure of flora and growth of the bud, its all an alchemical magic I want to envelope myself in.

Interview / Keri Anne of Gingerlillytea

When I got an instagram last year, one of the people I was very lucky to get to know is Keri Anne, the photographer mother extraordinaire behind the blog and shop Gingerlillytea. I actually used to follow her blog a long time ago and glad she is back entertaining us with her pretty photos, DIYs, and anecdotes of a mother in love living in magical England. She so graciously granted me an interview about what inspires her and what she's up to. I feel blessed whenever a friend or the like opens up to this little interviews. I think its nice to open up and share about themselves and offer an insight into what they do and how they live. See her blog

Hello, my name is Keri-Anne. I am a wife, mama and dreamer. I am a story teller. I blog and i photograph. I spend my days on adventures with my two daughters. We love building forts and playing dress up and walking by the river.
I am currently working on photographing a fairy series. I shall be finishing this series in the summer and ending with a short film which i am excited about. This will be my first short film.

My love of photography came from my own mind. I believe i was born to be a painter but i cannot draw for the life of me. I see images in my head that i wish i could just transform onto paper so, instead, i photograph the images i see. I tell stories through my work and try and bring an innocence to them.
I am a blogger so my work schedule is mostly blogging, creating DIY's and organizing my blog week. I can only open the laptop in the evening once the girls are in bed so i am normally up quite late getting everything done.

As a mother my lifestyle is all about creating memories with the girls. During the day, one of the girls will always want me to do something with them or help them with something. I am normally found lying on Elle's bedroom floor having a teaparty or taking them on little outings.
I call my daughters my fairies. They are so perfect to me and i can't even describe the love i have for them. It hurts my heart sometimes with the amount of love i have for them. Elle is 4 and Mia will be 2 at the end of March. They are both funny characters and have me laughing all day long. Elle is very imaginative but very stubborn and fiesty! Mia is a class clown. She is always doing silly things to make everyone laugh but she clings to me all the time and wants to be attached to me all the time. I don't mind really but it means housework doesnt really get completed.
Things that heal me. I like to write. I write fairytales and little poems that help me work out my own thoughts. I am a deep thinker so anything that can distract me from my own thoughts is a good thing. I think this may be why i am so creative. I dab in and out of different hobbies such as baking, sewing, knitting and dressmaking.

What i find beautiful. I have a love for forests and rivers. I love walking around in nature and taking in everything. I get a lot of my inspiration from dreamy places or just a tree that the light hits perfectly. I am always finding little parts of nature that people walk past everyday and don't "see". My heart will always flutter at bluebell forests. Carpets and carpets of the most perfect little flower.
I live in England, I live right in the middle of a town centre but i dream of the countryside and owning ducks and chickens. I have a wonderful abbey and lake by my house that i would recommend called Delapre Abbey. It is where most of my photographs are taken.

Daily Moodboard / Forests

I have dreams of the forest which nearly bring me to tears.
I can see them, the trees misty in an autumnal fog.
Hunter green and the scent of earth, an air like no other.
I feel no loneliness.
A blanket of leaves, a crown of branches, fallen feathers.
My finger tips run along moss and bark.
Bare feet against moist earth.

(all photos are Flickr sourced)
we are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it's forever
