Embracing the Wild; Winter Begins.

This year has taught me who I am and what I want to pursue. I spent the better part of this year wondering & discovering what made me feel alive & what I really wanted to be doing: raise awareness about the environment and animal welfare, to develop genuine friendships, being of use to others, learning the science, alchemy and folklore of health, encouraging others to pursue their own passions. You can remain dormant; sleeping for only so long. I was born a warrior, wild by heart and dreamer by nature.

I think about wolves in the wild who have had their land taken away, their numbers diminished. Elephants who happy to be very emotional creatures but are rescued since their lives hang in the balance as they are viciously hunted for parts of their anatomy. I think of forests that should bloom and serve as a sanctuary for many different species and the determined people who fight to keep them protected. Sustainable farmers who get sued by bigger unethical corporations on the basis of money, not quality. I think about people who were not given the opportunity to get an education. I think about how close in proximity we are to one another, physically and technologically and how we can help ourselves and the environment survive & thrive.

Winter is frigid & cold; a time of repose and reflection. This New Years Eve I will look back at all these lessons I have learned & at my accomplishments. I will make cider, cook a small plant-based feast and light candles to illuminate the dark as I look inward. I will move forward to pursue my own dreams disguised as goals, raising awareness to embrace the wild. Go for a walk in the forest if you are lucky enough to live near one. Visit a farmers market and get to know the people behind your sustenance, if you are blessed to have an animal companion - cherish your time with them, avoid products that test on animals, volunteer somewhere, anywhere!

Have experiences. This year has shown me that life will go on with or without you so don't let  "time" slip by: pursue what makes your heart sing, create memories, become your own source of inspiration and cherish what you do have, instead of believing you are unfulfilled. Make others, especially nature and it’s creatures happy, but most importantly do whatever makes you happy and feel “alive”

beauty + home gift guide

gift guide

here is the last gift guide, I have being using these products + gifted to others (except the cookie-mix) to be sure they are quality, thoughtful gifts. all are vegan, non-toxic, some organic and most eco-conscious. to me quality is in the effort put into creating products that benefit us & the environment. these are also ideal for stocking stuffers or simply, winter holidays gifts to keep you warm/moisturized/happy.

eden's garden good night essential oil / this is the year I discovered the glory of essential oils. in fall I began researching on essential oils for my burner and found these synergy blend of Chamomile, Lavender, Peru Balsam, Sandalwood, & Ylang Ylang. It smells divine, you can use essential oils topically if you dilute them with carrier oils, or just opening them and sniffing them. I like this band because its 100% pure (no additives) and really any oil you get be it for culinary or beauty should be in dark bottles, its a pure method of perceiving the oils and keeping them fresh! pair this with Badger sleep balm

kuumba-made vanilla musk body oil normally I dont purchase things labeled fragance but kuumba-made uses oils and resins from flowers, plants, roots and trees. but really I purchased this because it smells so yummy, I love vanilla and I like to rub this on my wrists after a shower as I head to bed.

laurel skin body oil I got this for my mother and she fell in love with this oil, which is a great feat because my mother is particular about (everything) nonetheless I'm not spruced because Laurel uses whole, organic, ingredients in her creations. my mother was a sun-lover when she was a child so she loves this oil because it helps her deal with damaged skin - it has rosehip seed, avocado, and tamanu oils that help protect and keep skin healthy. its also packaged in a dark bottle, which shows they know their chemistry! keeps the oils fresh.

objects with purpose candle tin sampler / comes with three tins of scents at random & matches, I was kind of surprised how much I loved the scents, personally I got gifted, archetype rising & francesca's chai. they are made with organic coconut butter and when you light the candle, you can use the oil/butter as a body massage oil, moisturizer, etc. Really thoughtful gifts with multi-uses.

free people serenity loose-leaf tea / Winter means indulging in warm beverages (especially on rainy days). I adore this tea. its herbal feat. lemon balm, rose petals, chamomile, strawberry & valerian root. Light and sweet

paine's basalm fir incense / makes your room smell like a forest, 100% natural and sustainable (most incense are not pure.) so if you're like me and would rather be out in the great outdoors this is an fitting gift. it also comes with a little stand to place the incense rods in.

free people chocolate/mint cookie mix / *according to the site this one is vegan & gluten free but its not certified g.f. so keep that in mind. nonetheless its a cute looking gift,

Pet Gift Guide

This gift guide is centered around our animal companions. I have a little Shih Tzu named Mimi who is the joy of my life and consistently inspires me to be a better person and especially embrace that pesky concept called responsibility. If you are lucky to have a animal companion hopefully this will inspire you to reach out and give them a little gift to cherish their presence in your life. The items I chose vary from ethically obtained, USA made or support no-kill animal shelters.

And if you are considering to get a animal companion I could endlessly emphasize the importance of adopting from shelters and giving an animal a forever home. For more info check out Best Friends Animal Society you can also sponsor animals at wonderful sanctuaries/rescues such as Woodstock Animal Sanctuary or Nowzad

“I like cancelled plans. And empty bookstores. I like rainy days and thunderstorms. And quiet coffee shops."

I love lace knitting, making homemade pie-dough. I love journaling but I haven't done much of it lately. I used to be a journaling demon as a child. I think it was my method of communicating. And of course to document.

It isn't the end of the year/beginning of winter just yet but I think what I have learned in the span of 12 months is that if you want something, or even to materialize your dreams you have to work hard, diligently and consistently at it

Perhaps dreams have become a concept similar to snow, rainfall or mail - we think it will come. Sometimes we simply expect it to. But I don't think believe that idealism is a fault. Dreamer's are artists who practice within a different medium.

I have a lot of dreams. Sometimes they change, sometimes I realize they weren't meant to last. It isn't that different from painting. You have this visual and once you put brush to paper, and begin the journey it may take a form quite different than what you perceived. Still, dreams - are worth chasing. Even if you get winded and tired of running. It's worth it.

Eco-Conscious Gift Guide

Eco-Conscious Gift Guide

the ritual of gift-giving is a part of the winter season, so I thought to join the many others and create a little gift-guide. Some of these products I own, others are definitely on my wish-list but the key factor for most is that their are either ethically made, obtained, or benefit our health in one way of another.
